About the Role
CloudPress Solutions is seeking an experienced WordPress Migration Specialist to handle end-to-end site migrations for our growing roster of enterprise and mid-market clients. As businesses increasingly move between hosting providers, upgrade from legacy CMS platforms to WordPress, or consolidate multiple WordPress installations into multisite networks, the need for reliable, zero-downtime migration expertise has never been higher. In this project-based role, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and verifying complex WordPress migrations that involve databases, media libraries, custom configurations, and third-party integrations.
Each migration project presents unique challenges, from migrating a 500,000-post news archive with complex custom post types and taxonomies to transferring a WooCommerce store with thousands of products and active customer sessions. You will need to assess each project independently, develop a detailed migration plan, communicate clearly with stakeholders about timelines and risks, and execute the migration with minimal disruption to the client's business operations. We value specialists who bring a systematic, well-documented approach to migrations and who understand that data integrity is non-negotiable.
CloudPress Solutions has a pipeline of 8-12 migration projects per quarter, ranging from straightforward single-site hosting transfers to complex multi-site consolidations involving data transformation and URL restructuring. You will have the flexibility to take on as many or as few projects as your schedule allows, with compensation based on project scope and complexity.
Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-migration audits of source WordPress installations, documenting database size, plugin inventory, custom code modifications, server environment dependencies, and potential compatibility issues with the target environment
- Develop detailed migration plans that outline the step-by-step process, timeline, rollback procedures, and success criteria for each project
- Execute database migrations using WP-CLI, custom SQL scripts, and migration plugins, ensuring data integrity across posts, pages, custom post types, user accounts, comments, and metadata
- Transfer media libraries and uploaded files between hosting environments using rsync, SFTP, or cloud storage APIs (AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage), verifying file integrity through checksum validation
- Configure DNS records, SSL certificates, and domain routing to ensure seamless domain cutover with zero or near-zero downtime
- Perform search-and-replace operations on serialized data in the WordPress database using WP-CLI's search-replace command, handling URL updates, domain changes, and path modifications safely
- Migrate and reconfigure third-party integrations including payment gateways, email marketing platforms, CDN configurations, and API connections
- Test migrated sites thoroughly against a comprehensive checklist covering functionality, visual accuracy, SEO metadata preservation, internal link integrity, and form submissions
- Document each migration with a detailed handoff report that includes environment specifications, configuration changes, known issues, and post-migration recommendations
- Provide 30 days of post-migration support for each project, addressing any issues that arise after the cutover
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience performing WordPress site migrations professionally, with a track record of at least 50 successful migrations across various hosting platforms
- Expert-level proficiency with WP-CLI, including database operations, search-replace, import/export, plugin management, and custom command development
- Strong understanding of MySQL/MariaDB administration, including database export/import, table optimization, character set conversions (latin1 to utf8mb4), and handling of serialized PHP data
- Experience with major WordPress hosting platforms including WP Engine, Kinsta, Cloudways, Pantheon, Flywheel, and traditional cPanel/Plesk environments
- Solid knowledge of DNS management, including A records, CNAME records, MX records, TTL configuration, and propagation timing
- Proficiency with Linux server administration, including SSH, file permissions, cron jobs, and command-line tools (rsync, tar, gzip, mysqldump)
- Experience migrating WooCommerce stores, including product data, order history, customer accounts, subscription data, and payment gateway configurations
- Excellent communication skills for managing client expectations, providing migration status updates, and writing clear technical documentation
Nice to Have
- Experience migrating sites from non-WordPress CMS platforms (Drupal, Joomla, Squarespace, Wix) to WordPress, including custom data mapping and content transformation scripts
- Knowledge of WordPress multisite architecture and experience migrating single sites to multisite networks or splitting multisite installations into standalone sites
- Familiarity with containerized WordPress environments using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar orchestration tools
- Experience with enterprise-scale migrations involving sites with 1M+ database rows or 100GB+ media libraries
- Understanding of SEO preservation during migrations, including redirect mapping, canonical URL management, and XML sitemap regeneration
- Certifications from hosting platforms (WP Engine Partner, Kinsta Agency Partner, etc.)
Benefits
- Project-based compensation ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 per project, depending on scope, complexity, and timeline requirements
- Fully remote work with complete flexibility over your schedule - you choose which projects to accept and when to work on them
- Access to CloudPress Solutions' staging infrastructure, migration tools, and internal knowledge base at no cost
- Priority access to new migration projects based on performance and client satisfaction ratings
- Opportunity to build long-term client relationships through post-migration retainer arrangements
- Invitations to CloudPress Solutions' annual team retreat and quarterly virtual knowledge-sharing sessions
- Co-branded case studies for your portfolio featuring successful migration projects (with client permission)
How to Apply
To apply, please submit your resume along with a brief case study of a challenging migration you have completed. The case study should describe the source and target environments, the key challenges you faced, your approach to solving them, and the outcome. We are particularly interested in hearing about how you handle data integrity verification and rollback planning. Please also include references from at least two previous migration clients. Qualified candidates will be invited to complete a paid trial migration using a test site we provide, which will serve as the final evaluation step before onboarding.
